Make your own playdough

It is quick and easy to make your own playdough in the microwave with ingredients that you always have in your home. I used to make three batches of this in different colours and add a different essence to each one for variety.

When my children were small we used to use play dough all the time for a frugal way to entertain them.

These days you can buy all sorts of fancy scented varieties, but I still prefer this recipe above all others.

If you don't have a microwave you can make your own playdough on your stove top, just heat slowly and keep stirring.

You will need:

1 cup of plain flour
½ cup of salt
2teaspoons of cream of tartar
1 cup sunflower oil
5 t of food colouring
1 t of essence

home made playdough Mix the dry ingredients together. Slowly add in the liquids mixing with a spoon all the time so that you do not get lumps.

Place in the microwave for 1 minute, them remove and stir.

Microwave for another minute, then remove and stir again.

If it is starting to cook then reduce the time to 20 minutes each time removing and stirring in between. You should not need to repeat this more than twice.

When it has cooled, remove it from the bowl and knead it well to make a smooth consistency. When completely cold store in an air tight container, in-between playing times.
