Vinegar

Use Vinegar for your rinse in your washer. Simply fill your softener cup with vinegar instead. Clothes will smell mildly vinegary when they are still wet but the smell is gone when they dry. They are soft and static free! I always feel like it leaves less residue on the clothes than a fabric softener.

Some other ideas:

I've also heard of mixing a bit of olive oil with vinegar and using it as a furniture polish.

I have not tried this one but I've heard you can rinse your hair with vinegar and it will be shiny and smooth.

Remove water deposits by soaking in 1/2 vinegar and water. I little elbow grease and the deposits should come off.

I'm sure there are more.
