Plain, old-fashioned Washing Soda crystals dissolved in hot water are the perfect replacement for detergent when washing dishes. Just wash and rinse, and crockery and cutlery comes up sparkling. Add lemon juice for a nicer smell. It’s also great to clean greasy, stubbornly grimy surfaces in the kitchen, and will even remove oil from overalls etc. A little goes a long way. Washing Soda is not so easy to find nowadays but certain supermarkets and hardware stores still stock it. Caution: Please do not confuse this with highly corrosive, toxic Caustic Soda!!!
