The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance is dedicated to increasing the awareness of mesothelioma cancer, a devastating disease caused by asbestos exposure. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked in jobs where they inhaled asbestos fibers, or were exposed to airborne asbestos dust and fibers in other ways. Something as little as washing the clothes of a family member who works with asbestos creates a risk for developing mesothelioma.
Usually, mesothelioma symptoms will not appear in an individual exposed to asbestos until many years after the exposure has occurred. Many people are under the impression that asbestos only lies in certain building materials, like siding. Unfortunately, asbestos fibers are showing up in places such as the floors inside the home, and in many more areas that people are completely unaware of.
Cities all over the country now recognize September 26th as Mesothelioma Awareness Day. We at the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance are dedicated to providing not only the best and most comprehensive information for those diagnosed with mesothelioma, but also resources to prevent adverse asbestos exposure from occurring even today. The more voices we have talking about this terrible disease, the more lives we can save.
