How to Make Going Green Cool

There are countless good reasons to start going green and hundreds of benefits to living your life in a more eco-conscious and efficient manner. Not only is it good for the planet, but it’s also good for your bank balance, for your conscience and for your independence and sustainability.

But let’s be honest, going green has never exactly been considered ‘cool’. Rather it has long been considered a little ‘hippyish’, or ‘do-gooder-ish’. Of course we know that that’s not the case, and when you go green yourself you’ll find that it’s actually pretty awesome for a number of reasons.

The challenge is showing that to other people. Not just so that you can feel a little less geeky, but also so that you can get them interested, spread the good word and increase the chances of more people saving more energy.

So how do you go about doing that? Read on and we’ll take a look at how you can make going green ‘cool’ again.

Gadgets and Projects:

Going green means going back to our roots, but actually the way we do this is generally very modern and very high-tech. It’s actually rather archaic to think that as a species we are still so reliant on burning old rocks in order to get our energy.

And thus many green gadgets are in fact rather space age and rather cool. Take for instance the example of the electric car. If you can afford one, then a Model S from Tesla will impress anyone and even gather crowds. But even if you just get a more modest solar phone charger, you’ll still feel a bit like James Bond whenever you get it out to use it.

DIY projects can also feel quite cool. Particularly those that are again quite high-tech and involve wiring things up or just thinking outside the box. When you create your own device for capturing rain water that you can reuse on your garden for instance you’ll be sure to feel smug and to impress guests at the same time. Going green makes you practical and makes your house more exciting.

Activities:

Going green is not just about switching to more efficient methods and products, it’s actually an entire way of life. That means you should be spending less time indoors using your electrical appliances, and a little more time outside windsurfing, rock climbing and doing other awesome things that bring you closer to nature.

Make it Sexy:

Believe it or not, going green can actually be sexy. Ride home from work with your top off for instance and you’ll make all the guys driving back with their beer bellies feel a little insecure. And then you can always drop into conversation the way that you and your partner like to share showers in order to save energy…

Money:

You save a lot of money by going green – by saving energy, by reusing materials, by buying things that last longer and even by getting grants and tax breaks (if you have a solar panel array or a wind turbine then you can find info on grants available online). Now there’s no way that anyone can say that that at least isn’t attractive. Now if you want to make going green seem all the more desirable and cool, then what you should do is to take that money and spend it on something you’ll really enjoy and get a kick out of. Like a lavish holiday for instance: there’s no way that anyone can argue that your third trip to Dubai isn’t cool…
