Why make the change to homemade shampoo? Becoming less reliant on bought shampoo saves you money and reduces plastic bottles in the environment. This easy shampoo recipe is great for all hair types as well as those who color their hair.
Some people take it a step further and start by doing a 2 week “grease out” where they do not wash or rinse their hair at all – I think they may also stay at home for most of those two weeks!Recently I heard of a concept called “no shampoo” and was intrigued. It has taken me a while to let go of my bottles of foamy sweet smelling shop bought shampoo to move a more natural and eco-friendly shampooing choice.
However, this homemade shampoo solution is much more convenient and works like a dream.
You will need:
Bicarbonate of Soda
Water
Lemon Juice or Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix together 1 tablespoon of bicarb in a cup of water. When your hair is wet massage this mixture into your hair roots and then gently through your hair. This take a while to get used to as it is very gritty. The trick is to be gentle with your hair so that it does not knot. Rinse and squeeze your hair.
Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice with a cup of water and then pour it over your hair. Work this through your hair as you would a conditioner and you will find your hair remarkably tangle free. Rinse and dry as normal.
You will find that you need only do this once or twice a week as you are no longer stripping your hair of all its oil which causes it to over produce the oil it needs to remain healthy and fleixble.
