In a pot mix together equal quantities of sugar, syrup and water. I used one cup of each. Bring to the boil until it thickens. While this is boiling cut your paper bag into 2.5cm (or 1.5 inch) strips. Punch a hole in one end and tie a length of string through the hole.
Pour this mixture into a shallow dish and allow to cool. When you can touch it without burning your fingers, dip the lengths of brown paper on both sides. Then run your fingers down the paper pulling the excess off gently. Tie each string with a quick release knot to the hanger.
Hang up overnight somewhere that it can drip (there is only slight dripping) and in the morning you can hang them where flies are most common. We have ours hanging over our
compost collection bowl, near the stove and in each window. Replace as needed.
