Effects of Global Warming

The signs and effects of global warming are all over say the scientists. But what exactly is happening today?

effects global warming Glaciers and icecaps are melting faster. Each year the sea level around the world has shown a small but measurable increase. This is due to the fresh melt water that is being added to the sea by melting glaciers and icecaps.

Coupled with the ice caps melting is the fact that each year the surface sea temperature is rising, as is the air temperature. The five warmest years of surface sea temperature measurements have been since 1995.

While we are talking about the sea – the acidity levels of the sea are rising each year. Some scientists are also finding that there is a “freshening” of salt water taking place, which they believe is connected to the amount of freshwater flowing into the sea from melting ice caps.

Snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere is 2% less that it was 10 years ago. "For every year since 1966, snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere has decreased by 5%." Jerry Silver

Lakes and river are showing that they are covered with less ice and for shorter periods each year.

Permafrost, which is "perpetually frozen ground" found in the Poles, has shown a 7% decrease in the last 100 years.

And each year Spring is arriving a little sooner indicated by how the birds migrate, buds form and leaves unfold.

Caveat:

It is my firm belief that science cannot prove anything! When I did science and geography at school and at university, the textbooks all used to tell me that "science has proven x,y or z".

It has been a huge realization for me, now that I am studying science from a creationist’s point of view, to see how scientists often have to change their conclusions due to new information being found. In the past scientific laws that have been accepted for centuries have had to be changed due to new data emerging.

Therefore, all the statements above are based on current trends in research, and are not scientific laws!
