D.I.Y. ODOUR-FREE FLY TRAP TO CATCH LIVE FLIES

I was searching the Internet for a D.I.Y. flytrap that will be less smelly than bought ones, and came across this idea on YOU-TUBE etc.

Use a cool-drink bottle, cut with a Stanley type knife, about 3 x 4cm long x 1/2cm wide slots evenly around the bottle, about 8cm from the bottom up.
Now cut off the top of the bottle at the first line or start at the top level section. Keep the ‘funnel like’ cut piece and lid of bottle separate.

Use masking tape and tape all around the cut off main section of the bottle to the base. Cut 3 pieces of light weight plastic-coated cardboard about 6cm x 7cm size, which will be used as the flaps covering the slots. Sticky taped it evenly over the slots and bend it slightly upwards – the flaps hide the entry point, but leave enough space for flies to enter the bottle.

Spray the bottle black, flaps too, so it attracts the flies if a piece of fresh apple or other fruit is placed inside it. Even a spray of apple-scented cool-drink will attract them too.

Push the ‘funnel’ with lid, firmly over the main bottle.
Hang the fly trap close to your wormeries, chicken/rabbit cages etc.
Very soon the flies will enter through the slots, will go up the closed bottle to the top part, as daylight attracts the flies upwards. Leave bottle alone till enough flies are caught.
You can feed the flies to your pet frog, little lizard, etc.
