Mosquito breeding places

With Spring around the corner, mosquito pests awaits us as we work in our gardens, as they breed out in a matter of days in upturned lids or containers filled with rain water. So first things first, check your garden for such containers, empty them and turn them upside down so they will no longer hold any water inside them for the mosquitoes to breed in.

I found on the Internet’s YOU TUBE etc. interesting, easy and quick D.I.Y. non-poisonous Mosquito Sprays to make for yourself and family which are the following:

RECIPE ONE:

*1/4 cup of Witch Hazel*
*2 drops Aloe Vera Gel*
4 drops Tea Tree Oil
4 drops Eucalyptus Oil
4 drops Geranium Rose Oil
1/3 cup of water
Method:
Mix ingredients well together with a teaspoon.
Add water last and mix well together by shaking it.
Pour into a small bottle or use it in a spray bottle.
Apply more often all over the exposed skin areas than commercial brands as it does not contain ‘DEET’ which gives longer lasting effect, but ‘DEET’ is poisonous to health as it gets absorbed through the skin.

N.B.
** Witch Hazel can be replaced by pure Apple Cider Vinegar
** Aloe Vera Gel can be replaced by pure Olive Oil

RECIPE TWO:

Mix equal parts of Witch Hazel and Apple Cider Vinegar together.
Add 5 drops of 100% pure Eucalyptus Oil to this mixture and shake well together.
Pour into a spray bottle and apply often to ward off the mosquitoes whilst working outdoors.

PLEASE KEEP THESE MOSQUITO SPRAYS OUT OF CHILDREN’S REACH!

Using these sprays will make working in the garden a pleasant chore.

D.I.Y. MOSQUITO REPELLENTS – excellent spray!
by: Natalie RowlesI’ve tried Recipe 2 out on myself recently, whilst gardening most of the morning and I was pleasantly surprised by how effective this spray was. Not one mosquito bit me during that time, where usually I even got bitten on my scalp too!

Witch Hazel is expensive and if you want to make a cheaper spray, then replace it with same amount of apple cider vinegar instead and add a few drops of olive oil with it. Mix well by shaking the spray bottle before use.
(I haven’t tried this one out yet, but should be as effective as Recipe 2 too).
