While you can probably just add a box of French toast to your grocery trolley when next at the store, learning how to make your own is of great benefit to you and your family.
Homemade French toast has no preservatives, can be made fresh in the morning for breakfast or made in bulk and frozen, and as always, when you make your own there is no waste and is a great frugal recipe.
It is also a great way to use up bread that may not be as fresh as you would like for sandwiches.
What you will need:
2 – 3 slices of bread per person
4 eggs
250ml milk
Salt and pepper
Oil and butter for frying
A selection of sliced fresh fruit
Beat the eggs, milk and seasonings in a shallow flat container. Heat the butter and oil mixture in one or two pans. Dip each slice of bread as is needed on both sides in the egg mixture. Hold at an angle to drain and then fry in the pan until browned on both sides.
Serve with organic maple syrup and fruit slices.
If you want to freeze your toast, then place the cooked slices on a cookie tray and freeze. Once frozen you can bag and seal them until you are ready to use them.
